| Regional Forecasting Workplace (RFW) was created on the 1st January 1999 within the context
of new arrangement of CHMI operative services. It was created by the amalgamation of the Meteorological
Prognosis Group, which was previously a part of the Department of Meteorology and Climatology, and the Hydrological
Prognosis Group, which was a part of the Hydrology Department. Hydrological forecasts at the Brno workplace were however
being given out already from 1960, when regional hydrological prognosis groups were being created in the Institute. In the first
half of the 1970s the giving out of meteorological forecasts as the activities of Agrometservis started in Brno, later as part of the activities of
the Department of Operative Information, and later still as the Department of Meteorology and Climatology.

| The Regional Forecasting Workplace works out weather forecasts for the territory of South Moravia with validity from several hours up to
7 days and provides information about the existing weather in Europe. It utilises the results of ground and high altitude meteorological measurements,
data from meteorological satellites and radars, and relies on special weather forecast numerical models. On the basis of empirical procedures and forecasting models,
it also puts together hydrological prognoses, i.e. forecasts of water stages and discharges on streams. A significant activity of the workplace is the giving out of warnings of
dangerous weather and hydrological phenomena, and of air pollution.
