| The Weather Forecast Group provides all information output from the synoptic meteorology.
It monitores existing state and development of weather on the territory of the Czech Republic (CR),
especially in the Vysočina (Highlands), South-Moravian and Zlín Counties. It evaluates meteorological
elements and phenomena observed on ground meteorological stations, data from radio-probe measurements,
radar and satellite data, and data from the lightning detection network. From available mathematical forecasting
models, especially ALADIN and further from Prognosis Centres in Offenbach, Reading, Bracknell and Washington, it
evaluates forecasts of fields of meteorological elements. The task of the Group is also to adjust meteorological
inputs into hydrological models and to provide products for the commercial utilisation of meteorological information.
In cooperation with the Central Forecasting Ofice (CFO) in Prague - Komořany it is responsible for the giving out of
warnings of dangerous meteorological elements and phenomena, as are e.g. strong precipitation, icy roads or strong wind, and of
other phenomena influenced by the weather, as are e.g. smog situations. The Weather Forecast Group works in a 12-hour daily operation.
|
| Kinds of weather forecasts
|
| The Group gives out once a day short-term and medium-term weather
forecasts for the Vysočina (Highlands), South-Moravian and Zlín Counties,
with the maximum possible accuracy of regional and temporal determination of weather development.
|
| General forecasts are intended for the wide public and media (e.g. regular direct entries
for Czech Radio - Brno and Czech Radio - Region). They contain the development of the synoptical situation,
cloudiness, phenomena, interval of air temperature and wind, and may be also supplemented by warning information.
|
| Special forecastsare given out for beforehand-determined purposes. They consist of a prognosis of meteorological
elements and phenomena, which are important in the given field of human activity, e.g. for the upkeep of roads, agriculture, energy industry, heat stations, building industry and mobile operators.
|
| According to the length of forecasting period, the following kinds of forecasts are given out:
|
| Very short-term forecasts - time of validity from a few hours to 12 hours from the time of release (several times a day).
|
| Short-term forecasts - time of validity up to 30 hours from the time of release.
|
| Medium-term forecasts - time of validity from 19:00 hours of the following day from the day of release to 19:00 hours of the third day from the day of release.
|
| According to the spatial validity of the forecasts we distinguish:
|
| Point forecasts - forecasts for a given locality not bigger than few km2 (airport, part of a town etc.)
|
| Regional forecasts - these are given out for a certain region with an area from several tens to several thousands km2.
They can contain a specification to smaller areal units, which make up the given region.
|
| The Workplace further provides information on the existing state and development of weather on
the competence territory of the Brno Regional Office, e.g. data from professional meteorological stations
(SYNOP reports) and data from volunteer meteorological stations (INTER reports). All information is relayed
by phone, fax, electronic mail, by means of media and by means of the www server of the CHMI.
